Our Mission

Helping North Monterey County essential workers and low-income families bridge the Digital Divide and get the resources they need/Ayudando a los trabajadores esenciales del norte del condado de Monterey y a las familias de bajos ingresos a cerrar la brecha digital y obtener los recursos que necesitan

Our goal is to provide agricultural communities residing in North Monterey County, equitable access to information through resources and digital technology/ Nuestro objetivo es ayudar a brindar a las comunidades agrícolas de que residen en el norte del condado de Monterey, el acceso a tecnología digital, con información y recursos.

Our North Monterey County service area covers the unincorporated communities living between the farms and agricultural packing companies of Moss Landing, Prunedale, Royal Oaks and Castroville. Unincorporated means that we do not have a city or even a township; it also means we don’t have a municipal governing agency or any city services/ Nuestra área de servicio del norte del condado de Monterey cubre las comunidades no incorporadas que viven entre las granjas y las empresas de embalaje agrícola de Moss Landing, Prunedale, Royal Oaks y Castroville. No incorporado significa que no tenemos una ciudad o incluso un municipio; también significa que no tenemos una agencia de gobierno municipal ni ningún servicio de la ciudad.

The Need is Great

Poverty rates and rural geography have left our ESSENTIAL WORKERS, ELDERLY, and YOUNG FAMILIES on the WRONG SIDE OF THE DIGITAL DIVIDE/ Las tasas de pobreza y la geografía rural han dejado a nuestros TRABAJADORES ESENCIALES, ANCIANOS Y FAMILIAS JÓVENES en el LADO INCORRECTO DE LA DIVISIÓN DIGITAL.

The Monterey County Office of Education identified over 11,000 students who did not have internet connectivity at home in March of 2020.** That survey did not include households without school-aged children, such as the homes of our elderly and families with babies. Suffice to say the need is great in our area/ La Oficina de Educación del Condado de Monterey identificó a más de 11,000 estudiantes que no tenían conexión a Internet en casa en marzo de 2020. ** Esa encuesta no incluyó hogares sin niños en edad escolar, como los hogares de nuestros ancianos y familias con bebés. Baste decir que la necesidad es grande en nuestra área.

We now know from our own internal surveys that at least 300 homes in our community have never had access to the internet / Ahora sabemos por nuestras propias encuestas internas que al menos 300 hogares en nuestra comunidad nunca han tenido acceso a Internet.

But we have a plan to fix this and with your help, WE CAN bridge this divide. When people living in poverty get access to information and resources, everything gets better/ Pero tenemos un plan para solucionar este problema y, con su ayuda, podemos salvar esta brecha. Cuando las personas que viven en la pobreza tienen acceso a información y recursos, todo mejora.

Current Initiatives

Currently we are partnering with BookStorm.org to collect donations of any gently owned internet-enabled devices like laptops, tablets, smartphones etc./ Actualmente nos estamos asociando con BookStorm.org para recolectar donaciones de cualquier dispositivo habilitado para Internet de propiedad privada como computadoras portátiles, tabletas, teléfonos inteligentes, etc.

We have an on-going campaign to purchase WIFI devices and hotspots which we will loan to household's in need, for one year. Additionally we are training our local youth to serve as a volunteer Tech Squad, so they can provide free digital support to families using this technology for the first time. Our Tech Squad and our device purchases are part of our partnership with DigitalNest.org / Tenemos una campaña en curso para la compra de dispositivos WIFI y hotspots que prestaremos a los hogares que lo necesiten, durante un año. Además, estamos capacitando a nuestros jóvenes locales para que sirvan como Tech Squad voluntarios, para que puedan brindar apoyo digital gratuito a las familias que utilizan esta tecnología por primera vez. Nuestro Tech Squad y nuestras compras de dispositivos son parte de nuestra asociación con DigitalNest.org
